Living green is at the top of everyone’s list this year, and it’s something we are trying to do for our own outside Christmas decorations. To that end, we did a little research to determine what kinds of Christmas lights we should be buying, and the overwhelming result is LED Christmas lights. Here are some of the green benefits: 1. They use up to 90% less energy. That can turn into $10 saved in electric bills for every 300 hours of use. 2. They last much longer, over 4,000 hours. Regular bulbs burn out before 2,000 hours. 3. Energy Star Approved And here are a couple other benefits we found with the Christmas LEDs: 1. They are cool to the touch, and the risk of fire is greatly reduced. 2. Shatterproof, which is great when you have young ones helping you put them up. 3. Although the larger bulbs are dimmer than regular bulbs, the mini-bulbs are brighter. Since mini-bulbs are the trend, and just look better in general, this is great news. So, to keep in the ‘Green Christmas’ theme, we’re planning first to not buy any new decorations if we can help it…the best way to stay green is to reuse what you have. But if we do have to buy, we are definitely going with LEDs. Merry Christmas!, Ryan
